The tickets for a Sports club disco is: £2 for members - £3 for non-members

1) X tickets were sold to members and Y tickets were sold to non-members. The total ticket money collected was £580. Write down an equation involving X and Y.

2) 250 people bought tickets for the disco:
Write down another equation involving X and Y

3) How many tickets were sold to Members?

If you can please include working - Thank you
1. 2x * 3y = 580

2. x + y = 250

3. Given the above information, choose a variable, and isolate it.

x + y = 250 --> y = 250 - x

Use this data in the other equation:
2x + 3(250 - x) = 580
2x + 750 - 3x = 580
2x - 3x = -170
-x = -170
x = 170

Now use this new data and figure out the other variable.
2(170) + 3y = 580
340 + 3y = 580
3y = 240
y = 80

So 170 member tickets were sold, and 80 non-member tickets were sold.
