Make sure your computer has the minimum system requirements to run Oblivion, you can test that with this site.

You'll have to give more information, what Operating sytem are you using? Does it crash in game, during start-up, or only when you enter certain areas? What are your system specs? Were you able to play it before and are encountering crashes recently? Did you download any patches or mods?

So no error message and the game crashes after you click play on the splash menu?

If your hardware just reaches the minimum requirements, you might want to shut down any CPU/memory intensive programs or programs that cause pop-up notifications (Anti-virus, P2P apps, email notifications, instant messengers, auto-updaters).

Search for "Oblivion.ini" and delete it. The game should create a new one the next time you run it.

If that doesn't work, your DirectX might be outdated, download and install the newest DirectX End-User Runtime.

If that still doesn't work, you might have to re-install the program.
Uninstall the game using the computer's built-in "Add-Remove Programs" from the control panel. Then delete then "Program Files/Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion" folder and the "Oblivion Configuration Settings", "BlendSettings", and "RendererInfo" files that should be located in "My Documents/My Games/Oblivion". Restart, and try re-installing the game.

I'd avoid trying to install something in Vista's system drive ("C:/"), that may cause problems.
