i would just like to vent a little here. there is no need to purchase mcafee or norton or any other antivirus suite or program period. here's all you need to be as protected if not more protected than using a pay for program without spending a thing.

Antivirus: Avast or AVG free. both are terrific programs, both feature real-time protection and update regularly.

Anti-spyware: A-Squared or Tenebril Spycatcher. A-squared has been a rising contender in the antispyware world and continues to hold its own. Spycatcher also has been shown to do exceptionally and has a fantastic detection rate and a fast scan time.

Firewall: ZoneAlarm. has been and is still one of the best firewalls out there. newest version extremely easy to use. will tell you exactly what programs are trying to access the internet, who's trying to get in, as well as their IP.

Winpatrol: this program is kind of unique. kind of firewall, kind of antispyware. great real-time protection.

for the average joe this should be more than enough. if your still getting infected and your using these programs your probably going to sketchy porn sites or something. or the hackers and virus writers have gotten really, really, good.
